Obverse: The obverse features a left-facing bust of King Olav V of Norway (1957–1991). Behind the bust are the engraver Øivind Hansen’s initials (ØH). At the bottom appear the mintmark (⚒), the year of issue 1991, and the mintmaster’s initial K. Around the portrait is the inscription OLAV V · NORGES KONGE (“Olav V, King of Norway”). The rim is encircled by a solid ring.
Reverse: The reverse depicts a petroglyph of a skier, more than 4000 years old, from Rødøy in Alstahaug municipality, Nordland. At the top is the Olympic symbol, and around the design is the inscription 1500 KRONER · LILLEHAMMER 1994. The design is by Øivind Hansen.
