Obverse: The obverse features a typographic design with the inscriptions “WIR SIND EIN VOLK” and “35 JAHRE DEUTSCHE EINHEIT,” symbolizing the 35th anniversary of German unity. The composition consists of two text blocks separated by horizontal lines, representing the idea of unity. At the top are the designer’s initials TS and the mint mark D, while at the bottom are the letter A and the year 2025.
Reverse: The reverse shows the common design used on all €2 coins: a map of Western Europe occupying the right side of the coin and extending into both the inner and outer rings. The inscription “2 EURO” appears above the map, with the numeral 2 superimposed over the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring features 12 stars arranged evenly on both sides of the map, visually connected by vertical lines between the upper and lower stars.
About the coin: This commemorative €2 coin was issued by Germany in 2025 to mark the 35th anniversary of German reunification. The design was created by Thomas Serres from Hattingen. The edge bears the inscription “EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT” (Unity and Justice and Freedom) along with the German federal eagle. The coin weighs 8.5 g, measures 25.75 mm in diameter and 2.2 mm in thickness, and is made of a bimetallic composition: a copper-nickel ring and a nickel-brass core. The total mintage is up to 30 million coins. It is legal tender throughout the euro area.
