Obverse: The obverse of the coin features the coat of arms of Vatican. Surrounding it are Latin inscriptions: "FRANCISCVS PONT.MAX.", "AN.XI- MMXXIII", "IHS", "MISERANDO ATQUE ELIGENDO", and "A. NAPOLIONE MAC INC". The entire design was created by the engraver Maria Angela Cassol and designer Antonella Napolione.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts one of the most famous paintings in the world - the fresco "The Creation of Man" by Michelangelo Buonarroti, located in the Sistine Chapel. The fresco shows Adam, lying on the ground and extending his hand towards the Creator, while God, suspended in a cloud, extends His right hand towards Adam, giving him life. At the top is inscribed "CITTA´ DEL VATICANO", at the bottom - the coin's denomination "20 EURO" and the mint mark "R".
