Obverse: a portrait of Dante Aligjer, inspired by a painting by Sandro Botticelli. At the bottom of the obverse is Dante’s signature and at the bottom the date of Dante’s death. The outer ring features the twelve stars of the European Union.
Reverse: classic design of the two-euro coin. The geographical map of Western Europe includes the outer ring and the inner core on the right side of the coin. Above the map of Europe is the word "2 EURO" and the number "2" is in an open field depicting the eastern Atlantic. The 12 stars are located on the right side of the outer ring, with six stars at the top of the map of Europe and six stars below it. Six vertical stripes are cut through the inner core of the coin, visually connecting the upper and lower segments of the star.
About the coin: this 2-euro coin commemorates the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Aligjer. Dante Aligjer is an Italian poet, prose writer, philosopher of morality and political thinker. Best known is his work Divine Comedy. This poem is considered a masterpiece of Italian literature and one of the most important works of medieval European fiction.
