Obverse: the front of the banknote features one of Lithuania’s key independence activists – Jonas Basanavičius. At the top is the inscription LIETUVOS BANKAS, below it the year of printing 2003, and at the bottom – the denomination PENKIASDEŠIMT LITŲ. In the center is the large numeral 50, with the signature of the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Lithuania beneath. The serial number is printed horizontally on the left and vertically on the right.
Reverse: depicts the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Stanislaus and Vladislaus in Vilnius – the most important symbol of Catholicism in Lithuania and the most prominent example of classicist architecture in the country. In the background, among trees, are Gediminas Tower and the Hill of Three Crosses. The Coat of Arms of Lithuania is in the top right corner, and the denomination PENKIASDEŠIMT LITŲ is printed at the bottom.
