Obverse: in the center is the emblem of the Bank of Russia (a two-headed eagle with lowered wings, below it a semi-circular inscription “БАНК РОССИИ” (lit. BANK OF RUSSIA), surrounded by dots and inscriptions around the edge: at the top is the inscription “ТРИ РУБЛЯ” (lit. THREE RUBLES), and at the bottom the year of issuance “2002”. The letters on the left indicate the metal sign and purity, on the right – the amount of pure metal and the mint’s trademark.
Reverse: depicted are two competing skiers, above them a soaring eagle, and at the bottom left – the year “2002”. The inscription around the edge reads: “XIX ЗИМНИЕ ОЛИМПИЙСКИЕ ИГРЫ СОЛТ-ЛЕЙК-СИТИ” (lit. XIX Winter Olympic Games SALT LAKE CITY).
