Reverse: the reverse depicts Britannia as the legendary Celtic queen Boudicca standing in a war chariot drawn by two horses. The design was created by Philip Nathan. The artist’s initials “PN” appear to the left of Britannia’s cloak. Around the image is the inscription “ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER 1999” and the name “BRITANNIA”.
About the coin: this coin is the second-issue 1999 Silver Britannia. It marks the first year Philip Nathan’s Boudicca Britannia design was used on a silver bullion coin. Previously, the design had appeared only on the 1997 PROOF issue. The coin is struck in .958 Britannia Silver and contains exactly one troy ounce (31.103 g) of pure silver, with a total weight of 32.45 g. The diameter is 40 mm. Only 69,394 pieces were minted in 1999, making it one of the scarcer early Silver Britannia issues. Like all Britannia coins, it is legal tender in the United Kingdom with a face value of 2 pounds. Early Britannia issues from 1997–2012 are notable for their .958 silver fineness, while since 2013 the series has been struck in .999 fine silver.
