Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a portrait of 37-year-old Queen Elizabeth II, adorned with a tiara. On both sides, the inscription ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA is engraved. The obverse was designed by Arnold Machin.
Reverse: The reverse of the coin depicts a polar bear. At the top, the country's name and denomination CANADA DOLLAR are indicated, while the bottom of the coin features the year of issue, 1980. The reverse was designed by Donald D. Paterson and engraved by Walter Ott.
