Obverse: The obverse of the coin depicts Little John – one of the most famous characters in English folk myths about Robin Hood. He is Robin Hood's biggest friend and loyal battle partner, as well as one of the most notable and important members of his team. Although the name “Little” might suggest that he was small, in reality, Little John was a man of gigantic size and strength – often portrayed as the strongest and largest member of Robin Hood’s band.
Reverse: The reverse shows an image of Queen Elizabeth II, surrounded by the text “2 POUNDS • ELIZABETH II • D • G • REG • F • D”. The letters “DG REG FD” refer to the Latin phrase “Dei Gratia Regina Fidei Defensor”, meaning “Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith”. Below the Queen's portrait are the initials of the artist, Jody Clark, “JC”.
