Obverse: Queen Elizabeth II is depicted in the obverse of the coin, with a circle inscribed "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D 5 POUNDS".
About the coin: the Yale of Beaufort is a mythical beast, described to be the size of a hippopotamus, with the tail of an elephant and jaws of a boar. It descends to The Queen through Henry VII, who inherited it from his mother, Lady Margaret Beaufort. Her position as a matriarch brought the Yale prestige and a symbolic meaning. Today, the Yale can be seen guarding prominent buildings of education such as Yale University, Christ's College and St. John's College in Cambridge.
When in 1953, her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was crowned, the entrance to the Westminster Monastery was protected by ten mythical creatures. The Queen's Beast was a six-foot-high statue that symbolized the heritage and history that Queen Elizabeth II inherited on the same day. These queen heraldic animals were transferred to this series of coins, named "Queen of the Beast", and the release of this series of coins began in 2016, when the Queen of Britain became the world's longest living monarch.
