Obverse: the obverse depicts an angel from the painting „The Angel Succouring Hagar“ that was painted in 1732 using oil on canvas. It was one of many of Tiepolo's breath-taking masterpieces. The year "1770" is the year of Tiepolo‘s passing and "2020" means the year of the coin mintage. The letter „R“ on the top side of the coin stands for Roman mint. Initials of coin designer „C.M.“ at the bottom right side of the coin stands for Claudia Momoni, the famous designer of obverses in Italy. All the twelve stars on the coin outer ring represent stars of the European flag.

About the coin: this 2 euro coin is dedicated to the famous Giovanni Battista Tiepolo which was one the of most talented painters in the eighteenth century and is considered to be the last fresco master of the Venetian school. Tiepolo was known for the usage of warm and deep colors in his paintings. To mark the 250th anniversary of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo's birth, San Marino issued a € 2 coin.
