Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts a gorodki player, representing the traditional sport popular in the USSR and Eastern Europe. Around the athlete are various wooden cylinder formations that must be knocked down with a throwing bat. At the bottom appears the logo of the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games together with decorative ornamentation. Around the edge is the inscription “Games of the XXII Olympiad Moscow 1980”.
Reverse: the reverse features the coat of arms of the USSR – a hammer and sickle over a globe, surrounded by wheat sheaves and topped with a five-pointed star. The denomination “5 rubles” is shown at the bottom, while the letters “CCCP” appear on the sides.
