Obverse: The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. Next to it is the inscription BEATRIX KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN (Dutch for Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands).
Reverse: The center of the reverse features the coin's issue year 1995 and the denomination 10 GULDEN, with Hugo Grotius' portrait below. Around the edge, the inscription DE IURE BELLI AC PACIS (About the Law of War and Peace) is engraved, as well as HUGO DE GROOT 1583–1645.
