German Reichsforstdienst (RFD) daggers from 1933-1937 were official status symbols of the officers of the German Forest Service (Reichsforstdienst) during the Third Reich. They were intended for senior forest inspectors and officials responsible for the supervision and management of German forests. The German Imperial Forest Service was created to organize proper control over the use of natural resources. The main task of this structure was to create and verify hunting and logging regulations. The head of this organization and the German Hunters' Association is Hermann Goering. These daggers symbolized not only the officer's rank, but also the prestige and importance of the forest service in Nazi Germany.
During the Third Reich, two models of RFD daggers were produced for junior and senior personnel of this organization. The material from which the handle plates were made varied, as did the color. The older series had ivory decorations, carved from horn or made of plastic. Junior members had a dagger with horn plates.
The originals of the 1933-1937 Reichsforstdienst daggers are very rare and valuable collector's items today.
