Obverse: the obverse of the coin depicts an equestrian rider on a horse jumping over an obstacle. Above is the logo of the Moscow Olympic Games along with a stadium fragment, while around the edge is the inscription “Games of the XXII Olympiad Moscow 1980”. At the bottom appears the year “1978”.
Reverse: the reverse features the coat of arms of the USSR – a hammer and sickle over a globe, surrounded by wheat sheaves and topped with a five-pointed star. At the bottom is the denomination “5 rubles”, while the letters “CCCP” appear on the sides.
