Obverse: The obverse of the coin depicts Cleopatra, the last Egyptian pharaoh of the Ptolemaic dynasty, seated on a chair. The composition is enriched with numerous ancient Egyptian symbols: Cleopatra’s cartouche bearing her lineage name, the Eye of Horus, and a bowl of figs. According to legend, it was in a bowl of figs that her servants brought her an asp snake, whose bite Cleopatra chose as the means of her suicide.
Reverse: The reverse shows the goddess Isis, whom Cleopatra claimed to embody. She is seated at the base of a pyramid, surrounded by hieroglyphs taken from ancient Egyptian papyri and inscriptions from the Temple of Horus.
About the coin: The 2 oz (62.2 g) silver Cleopatra coin from the Egyptian Gods series was struck in 2016 by Elemetal Mint. It is the first issue in the series, minted in high relief, a technique that gives the design a three-dimensional appearance. The coin is made of .999 fine silver, with a limited mintage of 38,767 pieces. Cleopatra’s image gives the coin not only numismatic but also historical and cultural value, reflecting one of the most famous women of the ancient world, whose legend is closely tied to the Egyptian goddess Isis.
