Along the edge is the inscription REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN, as well as the weight, purity, and metal – 1/25 oz Au 999 and the year 2004. The inscriptions are separated by dots, and the coin has a raised rim.
Reverse: The center features a portrait of the famous traveler Marco Polo. To the right are a caravan and a ship, symbolizing his journeys. Below the portrait is a stylized ribbon with the dates 1254–1324 and the inscription MARCO POLO.
