Obverse: The centre of the coin features a portrait of Prince Albert II of Monaco. To the left appears the country name MONACO, while the year of issue 2026 is shown below. Beside the portrait is the crowned monogram of the Grimaldi dynasty. The background features a subtle diamond pattern inspired by Monaco's heraldry and princely traditions. The design emphasises the continuity of the state and Prince Albert II's role as Head of State.
Reverse: The reverse features the standard design common to all €2 coins: a geographical map of Western Europe positioned on the right side of the coin and extending across both the inner and outer parts. The inscription 2 EURO appears above the map, while the numeral 2 is placed against the background of the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring contains 12 stars positioned on either side of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
About the coin: This Monegasque €2 circulation coin features Prince Albert II, who became the ruler of Monaco in 2005 following the death of his father, Prince Rainier III. Prince Albert II is widely known for his commitment to environmental protection, climate research and sustainable development initiatives. During his reign, Monaco has continued to strengthen its reputation as a modern and internationally recognised state. This design is used on Monaco's national €1 and €2 coins and symbolises the continuity of the Grimaldi dynasty and the sovereignty of the Principality.
