Obverse: In 2025 Finland issued a 2 euro commemorative coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the Finland–Sweden Athletics International Finnkampen. The obverse depicts two legs in motion, symbolising running and athletic competition. In the background, lines move in two directions, which can be interpreted as representing the two rival countries, Finland and Sweden. The coin was designed by renowned Finnish artist Pertti Mäkinen.
Reverse: The reverse shows the standard design for all 2 euro coins: a map of Western Europe on the right-hand side, extending over both the inner and outer parts of the coin. The inscription 2 EURO is placed above the map, while the numeral 2 appears against the background of the Atlantic Ocean. The outer ring bears 12 stars arranged on either side of the map, with vertical lines visually connecting the upper and lower stars.
About the coin: This coin was issued to celebrate 100 years of the Finland–Sweden athletics competition – a unique sporting event involving only these two neighbouring nations. The design highlights motion, the spirit of sport, rivalry, and friendship between Finland and Sweden. It was released in several qualities: UNC rolls, BU in card, and Proof version. The BU mintage is about 62,500 pieces, while the Proof edition is limited to only a few thousand. The coin was launched in August 2025, just before the jubilee event in Stockholm.
