About the coin: The 2 euro commemorative coin is intended to commemorate the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus. Nicolaus Copernicus was a Renaissance mathematician and astronomer who formulated a model of the universe in which the Sun, not the Earth, was at the center of the universe.
