Reverse: the reverse shows three women workers finishing the construction of the Avro 683 Lancaster X. The name of the country of origin 'CANADA' is embossed on the top and the year and denomination '1939 DOLLAR 2014' are embossed on the bottom.
About the coin: this is a silver dollar commemorating the 75th anniversary of the declaration of war. During the war, Canada began production of the Avro 683 Lancaster X, and the first Canadian-made Lancaster was completed on 1 August 1943. At the time, it was the largest aircraft ever produced in Canada. The episode on the reverse reminds us that many women took up industrial and other jobs when so many men were away at war.
